Description

In 2021, a new branch of Web3 was born: DeSci, or decentralized science. This session first explores some issues in the process of turning research into real world impact in the industry that is modern science.

The bureacratic and difficult process of transferring IP has made many universities become like IP holding companies, with potentially life changing discoveries left untouched due to the inefficiencies of bringing them to market. Plus, researchers spend on average 40% of their working lives filling out grant proposals - just imagine the impact if these researchers were given an easier funding mechanism which allows them to redirect that time to doing research.

We then look at how blockchain technologies like IP-NFTs, science DAOs, and peer review smart contracts are tackling these issues and fostering a revolution in how modern science is done.
